One of the things that Google looks at when deciding how to rank your blog or site is the speed at which it loads. There are a lot of factors that determine how fast your site loads and performs through normal navigation including site structure, plugin use, graphics and images, etc.
There are some easy things you can do to help your blog or site work a bit more efficiently while at the same time earning some “brownie points” from Google. The easiest way to speed up your site is to look at gzip compression and caching. I’ve written an article about gzip compression and boosting WordPress speed here and I give you my experiences with gzip plugins.
The other benefit to utilizing gzip and caching plugins is that while there is a slight bump in cpu usage initially, there is a vastly decreased load on your cpu and server resources when using compression and caching properly.
