Disable Comments In WordPress 3.1

I have to admit that I’ve been a little frustrated with some of the apparent changes in the WordPress platform with the recent release of version 3.1. Specifically, I liked the ability to turn off the comments box, especially on my pages that I intend to be static. I’ve finally figured it out and it was so simple it made me feel a bit stupid. Follow along to find out how to disable comments when desired.

Wordpress Screen Options 1On the top right of the page you will see a drop down labeled screen options. When you open it, there will be many variables you can choose to be visible on the current page. Wordpress Screen Options 2Checking the “discussion” box will return the familiar option to the edit page of “allow comments” and “allow trackbacks and pingbacks to this page”.  To disallow comments, simply uncheck the “allow comments” box.  This section will most likely be located close to the bottom of the page.disable comments

The screen options pulldown is different depending on where you are in the admin area. Pages will have different options than Users and so on.

Okay WordPress, I’m sorry I doubted you.

Good info. I had wondered how to do this as well and knew someone would figure it out

GREAT HELP!! Before finding your help I had read very difficult hints, like “change your config.php bla bla bla…” Too complicated and… it did NOT work with MY theme (some “gurus” should test before speaking…).

Anyway, you give a very clear help, as a help MUST be: If I cannot swin and I’m going to sink in a pool, I do not need a “guru” telling me: “Well, yes, you first should check the salt density of the water, to determine how long it will take to really sink, or, possibly, take a 6-month swimming course, or bla bla bla”…

Hope “experts” learn that help, when given, must be real help, not a personal show of one’s skills.

    Thank you very much!
